Canned Food War!
2008.04.29
Mobicon, Mobile's only science fiction/fantasy/gaming/anime/comic book convention, is pleased to be raising funds for the Bay Area Food Bank, a subset of America's Second Harvest. As part of our charitable endeavors, we are sponsoring a Canned Food War at this year's convention. Fan groups and individuals are invited to bring canned goods to represent their side of the battle. The theme for this year's contest is "Stargate vs. Star Trek." Two main containers will be placed at the lobby near the registration table, where fans can select their preference of container for items. At the end of the weekend, food items will be counted, and the container with the largest number of food units will be selected as champion. All items will then be donated to the Bay Area Food Bank.

Joey, who passed away December 25th, 2007, was known as the "Big Reel" for his productions of the 24-hour movie features at many conventions. Author Debbora Wiles said, "He worked tirelessly behind the scenes of fandom creating magic moments for everyone's entertainment for many years. Joey had a special magic inside him that burned with a bright flame that is an example to us all. He will be sorely missed in the halls of fandom."
